GIS in Ports: Learning from Real‑World Experience

GIS can deliver significant benefits for ports. Rather than simply telling that story ourselves, we have developed a series of articles and interviews that focus on learning directly from those using GIS in practice.

While we have extensive experience applying GIS across the marine domain, we recognise that we do not have the day‑to‑day, operational experience of running GIS within a port environment. That insight lies with the ports themselves.

This series is written specifically for port organisations and brings together perspectives from ports such as Forth Ports, ABP Southampton and PD Ports, who are already using GIS to support their operations. They share how they use and apply GIS, the benefits they have realised, and the challenges they have encountered along the way.

Below you’ll find the articles published so far, beginning with an introductory piece by our Managing Director and GIS enthusiast, Caroline Levey, “An Introduction to GIS in Ports.”
